On December 27 and 30, 2024, a two-day online Regional Technical Assistance Mission (TAM) Seminar was held on “The Role of AI in Higher Education.” The event brought representatives of HEIs, researchers and experts to discuss key aspects of integrating artificial intelligence into higher education.

The seminar featured two distinguished experts, Dr. Diana Andone, Director of the Department of Digital Education and Distance Education, Politehnica University of Timisoara, Romania and Dr. Gabriela Grosseck, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychology, West University of Timisoara, Romania, who shared their critical insights and experiences on expanding AI’s role in higher education. The first-day of the seminar was attended by 300 participants and the second day was attended by more than 180 participants.

Overall, the seminar resulted in several actionable takeaways and recommendations to optimize AI-driven teaching methods, improve pedagogy, research and prioritize strategic planning and training for the application of AI in higher education.
